After a rough day at work, I thought I would give this popular south Australian Penley Estate 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra a try (despite the screwtop which I normally shy away from.) The winemaker is Kate Goodman, one of Australia’s best contemporary winemakers. This cabernet has a fruity bouquet of blackberry, plum and cassis with chewy tannins and a medium body. It was dry on the tongue with a medium finish and hint of pepper at the end. The taste of fruit is not overpowering. Acidity is medium. It is a drink me now wine that would also pair well with grilled steaks. Seems to have a high alcohol content which I noticed after the first glass. So if you had a rough day, have a glass of this! This wine is underpriced at under $20 which won’t hurt the budget either! I give this 3 out of 5 glasses.
